Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the most visible division within the police department. The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to all calls for service within the Township. These officers are often the first unit on scene; thus, they play an important role in any incident. The Patrol Division is responsible for the enforcement of all local, county, and state criminal laws, including motor vehicle law. Each patrol vehicle is equipped a laptop, a R.A.D.A.R. unit, first aid equipment, an Automated External Defibrillator (A.E.D.), Oxygen, motor vehicle lock-out tools, a fire extinguisher, tactical tools, and various other equipment.

All Police Officers are trained as First Responders for medical emergencies. Some Police Officers are also trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (E.M.T.). These Police Officers have been certified by the State of New Jersey, and are able to provide a higher level of medical care; in fact, they can provide the same level of care that a Basic Life Support (B.L.S.) ambulance can provide.

The Patrol Division is also responsible for the deployment of a Decatur R.A.D.A.R. Trailer (pictured below). The R.A.D.A.R. Trailer is used for conducting speed control in high risk areas and in areas requested by township residents. The R.A.D.A.R. Trailer has a two digit, 18″ inch amber display to notify oncoming traffic of their current speed. The trailer also included a radar based data logger so that a statistical report can be generated for every deployment of the unit. The statistical report aids the department by providing data to determine whether or not increased patrols are needed in a specific area for speed radar enforcement. Residents may contact the police department to request deployment of the R.A.D.A.R. Trailer.

The Patrol Division also contains Police Officers who are certified as crash reconstruction investigators. These officers are responsible for investigating any serious traffic crash. The division also has officers certified or qualified in advanced driving while intoxicated testing practices.
